Please join us as we welcome celebrated graphic novelist Pénélope Bagieu, from Paris, in conversation with Delaware novelist and graphic memoirist Maggie Thrash. Together, they’ll explore their own work and the world of women cartoonists/graphic artists.

Pénélope Bagieu’s newest book is Brazen: Rebel Ladies Who Rocked the World. In it, she profiles the lives of feisty female role models, some world famous, some little known. From Nellie Bly to Mae Jemison or Josephine Baker to Naziq al-Abid, the stories in this comic biography are sure to inspire the next generation of rebel ladies. Maggie Thrash’s Honor Girl is a graphic memoir about first love and first heartbreak in the girls’ summer camp she had attended nearly every summer of her life.

Pénélope Bagieu was born in Paris in 1982 to Corsican and Basque parents. She is a bestselling graphic novel author, and her editorial illustrations have appeared all over the French media. In America, her graphic novels include Exquisite Corpse and California Dreamin’. She blogs, plays drums in a rock band, and watches lots of nature shows.

Maggie Thrash grew up in the South. She is the author of the graphic memoir Honor Girl (a Los Angeles Times Book Prize nominee).  Her novels Strange Truth and Strange Lies were inspired by her experiences at an exclusive prep school in Atlanta, where everyone had secrets. Her short stories and non-fiction articles can be found on Rookie, an online magazine. She attended Hampshire College and the Sewanee School of Letters. She now lives in Delaware.
