Join us as we celebrate Lynn Gregory’s first novel - a novel that grew out of a memoir workshop taught by Minter Krotzer right here at our bookstore!
The Other Side of a Tapestry is a novel that tells the story of Teri Addison as she attempts to decode a puzzling letter written in Spanish to her deceased mother from a former family maid. What starts out as a simple translation exercise grows in complexity as each step evokes childhood memories that result in the unearthing of long-buried secrets and trips to Argentina where Teri learns the ways in which her life has intersected with that country’s painful history.
The idea for this novel was seeded in a memoir writing workshop run by Minter Krotzer at Big Blue Marble Bookstore. A two page exercise on the subject “Mother Said” evoked a specific memory from Lynn’s early childhood. The rest is fiction.
Lynn Gregory retired in 2015 from a 40 year career in Applied Social Science Research. She holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Anthropology from California State University at Long Beach and a doctorate in Foundations of Education from Temple University. Most of her professional life was spent conducting anthropological research and teaching at the college level, ending with a sixteen year stint as Executive Director of Partnerships for Creative Action, a small research and technical assistance consulting firm she created. Over the years, her work took her all over the country and she wrote hundreds of academic manuscripts covering a wide range of subjects. Both her travel and work itself provided multiple opportunities to meet interesting people whose stories have fueled her imagination. Lynn lives in West Mt. Airy with her husband, dog, and three cats.
