EVENT CANCELLED DUE TO ILLNESS

Author River Adams joins us to present their new novel, The Light of Seven Days. The Light of Seven Days is a story of Dinah Ash, a Jewish ballerina who escapes from the rising anti-Semitism of the collapsing Soviet Union to Philadelphia. As she searches for a sense of who she is, for a place to call home, and for the comfort of faith, Dinah confronts the questions of race, religion, and culture gaps; redefines her ideas of love, family, and loss; explores the connections between people that span continents and eras. What is the meaning of survival? Do we choose our own identities? Can we ever begin anew?

"Adams’ lyrical prose paints a lush, vivid, and imagistic portrait of the world through Dinah's eyes.... A quiet, artfully rendered story of the beauty and difficulty of coming-of-age between cultures, in the shadow of history." — Kirkus Reviews

River Adams (they/them) grew up a concert pianist in Russia, came to the US as a Jewish refugee as the Soviet Union was about to collapse, and made their first home in Media, near Philadelphia. In Pennsylvania, they worked as a musician, a medical interpreter for Russian-speaking patients, and a professor of religious studies before moving to New England and turning to writing full time. They hold graduate degrees in theological studies from Harvard Divinity School and in creative writing from Emerson College. Adams' short prose has appeared or is forthcoming in a variety of publications, including The Common, Post Road, New Ohio Review, Bellevue Literary Review, BOMB, The Long Story, Descant, The Arkansas Review, The MacGuffin, and others. They are the author of There Must Be YOU (2014). The Light of Seven Days is their debut novel.
