Psychedelics + Therapy = Potent Possibility

An overview for therapists and therapy-savvy people interested in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy for their own healing journeys.

There is a lot of buzz about psychedelics, therapy and healing, but it's hard to get the lay of the land as a client or therapist. One of Mt. Airy's own, Karen L. Smith, MSS, LCSW, wrote the book on it: Prepare Yourself, Your Clients and Your Practice for Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy: A Step by Step Guide.

Karen will join us with her colleague Dr. Sophia Brandstetter, LCSW, PsyD, to share ideas and answer questions on how to explore ketamine-assisted psychotherapy for your own healing journey; and for therapists, what it looks like to weave it into your work with clients. To RSVP for this event, please email events@bigbluemarblebooks.com or call the store.

The book offers a concrete, detailed, organized lay of the land of ketamine assisted psychotherapy for client and therapist alike:

  • How to use intention setting to prepare fo a healing-focused psychedelic experience

  • What neuroplasticity means and what activities take best advantage of its ripe opportunities

  • Various protocols to increase primary goal of long term integration of medicine journeys

  • Explanation of common terms in the psychedelic world like set and setting, inner healing wisdom, psychelytic versus psychedelic, etc.

Karen L. Smith, MSS, LCSW has worked as an analytically-oriented psychotherapist for over 30 years. She founded and directs Full Living: A Psychotherapy Practice, specializing in thoughtful matches between clients and seasoned clinicians. She co-directs Ketamine Kollaborations which seeks to increase the number of clinicians prepared to work with psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy.

Dr. Sophia Brandstetter LCSW, PsyD is the founder of The Ko-Op in Philadelphia, a groundbreaking psychotherapy treatment center providing access to psychedelic healing using Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). Dr. Branstetter is additionally director of a group psychotherapy practice Growth for Change, and co-director of Ketamine Kollaborations, providing programming for clinicians interested in working with KAP.
